कडक उन्हाळ्यानंतर पावसाळा आल्यावर एक आनंदाची लहर पाहण्यास मिळते. आकाश, वृक्ष, तहानलेले पशुपक्षी सर्वांना अपार आनंद होतो. उन्हाळ्यात वणव्याने करपलेले डोंगर पुन्हा हिरवेगार होतात. लहान पण सुंदर दिसणारी रानफुले हिरव्या पार्श्वभुमीवर डोलु लागतात. उंच डोंगररांगाकडेने, दऱ्याखोऱ्यातुन ढगांची धावपळ सुरु होते. ऐरवी शांत व बुजरा असणारा कस्तुर रानात मोहक गाणे गाउ लागतो. झरे झुळुझुळु वाहु लागतात. एखाद़्या उंच कड़्यावरुन हवेत उधळतात.

As clouds cover the deccan platue, in monsoon, a wave of joy passes through the plants, people and all the elements of Nature. The otherwise barren hills turn beuatiful velvet green. Small and beautiful wildflowers crop up from the ground. The grass is covered with sparkling dew. The clouds swing along the mountain ranges. The Thrush starts singing its monsoon melody. The streams start rappling down the most precipitous cliffs in to the vales full of mist. The otherwise harsh sunshine, becomes the desire of many. The dry grasslands regenerate themselves to rise again, to dance with the wind. The black rocks in evergreen forests of western ghats are surrounded by white speeding streams, and climbed upon by beautiful moist green moss. The monsoon is a pleasant Surprise Gift, which transforms the deccan platue beyond the imagination of a common man.

The turbulence of the monsoon weather can be felt at the top of these small hills around Pune. While the life on the lower plains is drenched in the rain, from up on the hill the distant light scatters are seen travelling along with the clouds. While the grass and trees on the east of the hill find solace from heavy wind atop the spine of the hills, those on the west front face fury of the wind and rains.

आषाढ महिन्यात पावसाला जोर येतो. एखाद़्या आठवड़्यात पाउस सर्वांना झोडपतो. डोंगर सफेद ढगांचे पांघरुण घालुन लपतात. हिरव्या मखमली गवतावर लहान सफेद आषाढ अमरी ची रानफुले येतात. चरणाऱ्या गुरांशी हितगुज करतात. पावसाचे थेंब आपल्या अंगाखांद्यावर खेळवतात. धुंद वाऱ्यावर थरथरतात. आपल्या स्वागत पर मुद्रेतुन येणाऱ्या जाणाऱ्या माश्यांना व किड़्यांना आश्रय देतात.

In month of July, the atmosphere gets filled with white cluds and mist. The hills are constantly covered with the white clouds. The small ground orchids start appearing on the meadows on hills of medium altitude. These small orchids with white misty sky, is a picture on untouched hills.

कोळी हा भीतीदायक पण अनोखा जीव आहे. जगात अनेक प्रकारचे कोळी आढळतात. (अंदाजे ३८००० प्रकार). जंगलात आढळणारे छुपे कोळी आपले जाळे आडवे बनवतात. या जाळ्यात एका बाजूस एक जाळ्यापासून बनवलेले भुयार असते. दिवसभर कोळी या भुयारात लपुन रहातो. जाळ्यात शिकार सापडताच, कंपनांमुळे व हालचालीमुळे, लपलेल्या कोळ्यास शिकारीचा सुगावा लागतो. तो लगबगीने भुयाराच्या बाहेर येऊन शिकार शोधुन फस्त करतो. छायाचित्रांमध्ये दर्शिवलेल्या सारखे या जाळ्यावर दवबिंदुंचा सुंदर पसारा असतो. दवबिंदुंमुळे जाळे तणावाखाली रहाते. याचा कोळ्यास फायदा होतो.

Spiders are scary but very interesting characters. There are about 38000 species of spiders in the world. The images shown here are the images of some kind of sheetweb spiders. These spiders lay their web in the shrubs. The webs are about 20 to 30 cm across. The sheets are normally horizontal. Often one can find a small funnel shaped tunnel at one end of the web. These spiders detect the small vibrations and movements in the on the web sheet using their senses and hair on limbs. The spiders move rapidly out of their funnel shaped woven tunnel and capture the prey. The webs are often coated with the dew drops.

आषाढ अमरी ची सफेद फुले पावसाळ्यात डोंगरावरील पठारांवर दिसु लागतात. हिरव्या गवतावर ठळक उठुन दिसतात. आषाढ अमरी व चिरे अमरी या सारख्याच दिसणाऱ्या फुलांच्या वनस्पतीत पानांमध्ये फरक असतो. आषाढ अमरीला एकच जमिनीलगतचे पान असते. आषाढ अमरी प्रामुख्याने गवतात तर चिरे अमरी दगडावर आढळते.

The flowers of Habenaria are pure white colored orchids, seen on the wild grasslands in early monsoon months of June and July. This flora is mainly seen on wild grass, at altitudes. It has single heart shaped and rounded leaf on the floor. The shape of the leaf and the width of middle lobe separates this orchid from its close look alike Habenaria Rariflora. The flowers are not seen gregariously on the grasslands disturbed by human activites such as farming etc.

आभाळात ढगांच्या मांडवातुन अधुनमधुन उन्हाचे कवडसे हिरव्या रानावर पडुन त्याला उजळत होते. लहान स्थिर पाण्याचा सफेद जलप्रपात खळाळत होता. अचानक ढगांच्या गर्दितुन एका ढगाने तेथेच अंखंड प्रपात घडविला. आकाशातुन कोसळणाऱ्या पावसात, जलप्रपात हरवला. पाउस ओसरला खरा, पण लहानश्या दिसणाऱ्या जलप्रपाताने उग्र स्वरुप धारण केले. लाल माती चा रंग धारण करुन त्याने आपला वेग व आकार व आवाज वाढवला. अशा वेगाने वाहणाऱ्या जलधारेपासुन माणसाने मात्र जरा जपुनच रहावे.

There was a celestial light piercing through the rapidly moving clouds. The stream was thin and nice jumping from one level to the other below and another further below. Suddenly a large cloud appeared from west. Having suddenly come across the land, the cloud busted, It was dark. Even the exposure of 5 seconds was not sufficient. In no time the thin super white rappelling stream turned chocolate brown. The volume of its music increased to deafening level. I rain to the shelter of a temple waiting anxiously for my friends who had earlier crossed the stream. These streams in western ghat suddenly become violent if the rains upstream rise. To cross such violent stream is a serious survival test.

राजगडाच्या सुवेळा माचीच्या वाटेवर, वरंधा किंवा ताम्हिणी घाटात, तैलबैलाच्या भिंतीखाली, भीमाशंकरच्या देवराईत असा संपुर्ण सन्ह्याद्रीच्या डोंगर माथ्यावरच्या रानामध्ये, हा पक्षी आढळतो. याला शीळकरी कस्तुर असे म्हणतात. इंग्रजीत याला प्रेमाने स्कुलबॉय व्हिसलर असे म्हणतात कारण याचा पावसाळ्यातील ध्वनि फार सुन्दर आहे. जणु पक्ष्यांमधील पंडीत भीमसेन जोशी. ताम्हिणीच्या वनात हिवाळ्यात हे छायाचित्र घेताना, कस्तुराने छान शेपटीचा पिसारा फुलविला आहे. कस्तुराच्या पंखावर व कपाळावर चकचकित निळा रंग यास वेगळी ओळख देतो. हा पक्षी भारतात पश्चिम घाटात, सातपुडा पर्वत रांगेत आढळतो.

Malabar whistling thrush is seen in evergreen forest all across the western ghats. The birds is very vocal in monsoon season, when it breeds. During the monsoon season it is also seen in semideciduous forests. It is always seen alone, sometimes in pair. In monsoon it sings its full whistle song along with a small sharp whistle. In non breeding days it sings only a small sharp whistle. It has blur patches on its forehead and on its wings. It has typical way of low fast gliding under the forest canopy.
